For Father's Day

Since Dax was gone all weekend doing his training with the State Guard, Addison and I decided to do something different with his cake.

Here's his cake:

We did the inside in camo:

We could barely find it to eat it! LOL

Anyway, to get this effect I just colored vanilla cake mix and then put it in the pan in plops of color. I went over the colors to make sure the batter was deep enough in the pan and kind of mushed it around a little. I didn't really swirl it because I didn't want the colors to blend.

I saw a picture on pinterest of some pans with the batter, and this is what I figured out to do to get the same effect.

Dax thought it was pretty funny.

Saw it on pinterest

I think that could be the title for a whole lot of projects. Both for me and many other people.

I made this 'sunflower' cake for Easter dinner tomorrow.

I thought it turned out pretty cute.

And thank goodness I used the 8 inch cake pans so that I didn't need that extra package of peeps that I bought just to make sure I had enough......because I already ate them.

When a cake fails

Today is a friends birthday so last night I was making a cake for her.

I had grand plans. Everything was from scratch. And then, despite generous greasing and flouring, the cake stuck to the pan anyway. And not even in a remotely salvageable way. One side stuck, while the other side fell out. The more I tried to fix it, the worse it got until it all crumbled into a big mess.

So what was I supposed to do then?

I fretted for awhile, and then inspiration struck.

If life gives you a messy cake..........put it in a jar!!!! LOL

Of course Dax looked at me like I was crazy. But, the birthday girl and the other cake-in-a-jar recipients thought it was a really cute and clever idea.

That is until Dax made me tell them why it was in the jar. lol

But, hey, it works, right?
